Enyimba International FC’s search for consistency suffered another setback after Warri Wolves held the nine-time Nigerian league champions to a goalless draw in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 9 encounter at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.
The People’s Elephant dominated significant spells of the contest but lacked the cutting edge to translate their territorial advantage into goals, allowing the Seasiders to leave Aba with a valuable point.
The stalemate came a week after Enyimba suffered a 4–2 defeat to Katsina United, further exposing their struggle to sustain positive results in the opening phase of the campaign.
Enyimba began with attacking intent, seeking an early breakthrough, but their plans suffered a setback in the 10th minute when goalkeeper Dede Dare was forced off following a collision with Ejike Uchegbu. Utum Godswill replaced the injured goalkeeper.
Despite the disruption, the hosts continued to push forward, with Wonah Williams providing an attacking outlet down the right flank.
Chijioke Ihemekwele threatened twice as Enyimba sought to impose themselves, while Odinaka Obichere came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute when his free kick struck the crossbar.
The missed opportunity proved costly as the hosts continued to struggle with their finishing. Stanley Dimgba had an effort blocked after being set up by Ihemekwele, while Iyanda Tobi failed to hit the target following another promising pass from Dimgba.
Warri Wolves, meanwhile, remained organised at the back, frustrating Enyimba’s attempts to find openings through the visitors’ defensive structure.
The pattern continued after the restart, with the Aba side increasing the pressure in search of a decisive goal. However, the Seasiders demonstrated resilience, producing a crucial goal-line clearance in the 60th minute to preserve the stalemate.
The visitors also threatened to snatch victory late in the encounter, but Obichere intervened in time to prevent a potentially damaging concession.
Ultimately, Enyimba’s inability to convert their chances proved decisive, while Warri Wolves earned credit for their disciplined defensive display and composure under pressure.
The result leaves Enyimba with eight points after nine matches, a return that highlights the need for greater consistency as the season progresses.
Although their 4–2 victory over Shooting Stars on September 30 demonstrated their attacking potential, subsequent results have underlined the difficulty of maintaining that level of performance. The challenge for the Aba club is now to rediscover their scoring rhythm while tightening their overall game.
Warri Wolves, on the other hand, will take encouragement from a clean sheet against one of the league’s most decorated clubs. Their ability to withstand sustained pressure away from home could prove valuable as they seek to build momentum in the competition.
Enyimba must quickly regroup ahead of another demanding assignment: an away fixture against Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, October 25.
For the People’s Elephant, the priority will be to turn promising attacking phases into tangible results. Without greater precision in front of goal, their ambition to climb the standings could be hampered by further dropped points.
