Plateau United delivered one of their most convincing performances of the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, dismantling Kano Pillars 4-0 at the New Jos Stadium to underline their growing attacking threat.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men took control almost immediately, scored twice before the interval, and added two late goals to condemn the former champions to a damaging defeat that ended their unbeaten run.
The emphatic victory also provided a timely response for Plateau United following their 2-0 loss to Enyimba in Aba on Match Day Seven, as the Jos side returned home with renewed purpose.
Paul Samson set the tone in the third minute, finishing after an attacking move involving Ekundayo Ojo and Ibrahim Yahaya to give the hosts an early advantage.
The goal forced Kano Pillars onto the back foot, with Plateau United exploiting their momentum to apply pressure and search for further openings.
The visitors struggled to contain the home side’s attacking combinations, while Plateau remained disciplined enough to protect their advantage and prevent Kano Pillars from finding a route back into the contest.
The hosts struck again on the stroke of half-time when Ojo capitalised on a corner delivered by Victor Dawa. The ball took a deflection before falling favourably for Ojo, who finished to send Plateau United into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.
The two-goal cushion gave Ogunbote’s side a firm platform after the restart, allowing them to manage the contest while remaining dangerous in attack.
Kano Pillars needed a response to revive their hopes, but Plateau United maintained their grip on proceedings and ensured the visitors could not mount a meaningful comeback.
Samuel Ayanrinde effectively settled the contest in the 82nd minute, extending the hosts’ lead to 3-0 and leaving Kano Pillars with little prospect of salvaging a result.
Nenrot Silas then completed the rout in the fourth minute of stoppage time, adding the fourth goal to cap a commanding display and underline Plateau United’s superiority.
The result was particularly significant for the Peace Boys, who moved to third place with 14 points following the Match Day Eight fixtures, according to reports on the league standings.
For Kano Pillars, the defeat represented a substantial setback after their encouraging run of results. The former champions were unable to recover from Samson’s early strike and ultimately conceded four goals without reply.
Plateau United’s performance demonstrated the value of an aggressive start, clinical finishing, and sustained pressure, with four different scorers contributing to a victory that could provide momentum for the challenges ahead.
The Jos side will hope to build on the emphatic result in their next league assignment, while Kano Pillars must address the shortcomings exposed by the defeat if they are to regain their earlier consistency.
