Kano Pillars were forced to settle for another draw on Sunday as Sporting Lagos secured a 1-1 result in a fiercely contested 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The result extended Pillars’ unbeaten start to the campaign, although the Kano side were left disappointed after failing to convert their sustained second-half pressure into a winning goal.
Sporting Lagos took the initiative shortly before halftime when Valentine Ugwu found the breakthrough in stoppage time to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Pillars responded immediately after the restart, with Abdullahi Musa restoring parity to revive the hosts’ hopes of completing a comeback.
The equaliser triggered sustained pressure from Mai Su Gida as they pushed forward in search of the decisive goal.
Sporting, however, remained organised defensively and successfully resisted the hosts’ late onslaught to leave Kano with a valuable point.
For Kano Pillars, the draw means they remain unbeaten but have now recorded four draws in their opening six matches, underlining their difficulty in turning promising performances into victories.
Sporting Lagos also extended their sequence of draws to three consecutive matches, with the point offering some consolation as they continue their search for a return to winning ways.
