2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 7: Rivers United Face Ikorodu City Test After Hectic Schedule

Posted : 04 October 2026

Rivers United will look to extend their unbeaten start to the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season when they welcome Ikorodu City to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

The encounter will be the Pride of Rivers’ third competitive fixture in six days, leaving head coach Finidi George with the task of balancing the demands of a congested schedule with the team’s impressive early-season form.

Rivers United faced Ranchers Bees on Monday before travelling to Katsina United for a midweek fixture on Wednesday.

Despite the demanding sequence, the Port Harcourt side remain unbeaten after six matches, recording three victories and three draws.

Their latest outing produced a 1-1 draw against Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, where Samson Olasupo put Rivers United ahead shortly after the restart.

Former Rivers United midfielder Sani Mubarak, however, levelled for the hosts with a deflected free-kick to ensure the points were shared.

The result took Rivers United’s tally to 12 points, leaving them second on the table, one point behind leaders Rangers.

The short recovery period could now test the depth and physical readiness of the Rivers United squad as they prepare for another demanding encounter on home soil.

Ikorodu City will also enter the fixture after a midweek engagement, having played out a goalless draw with Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

The Lagos-based side have accumulated eight points from six matches, with two wins, two draws and two defeats.

While Rivers United will be determined to preserve their unbeaten record and remain within touching distance of the league leaders, Ikorodu City will be seeking to claim a result that could strengthen their position on the table.

With both teams having little time to recover from their midweek assignments, tactical adjustments, squad rotation and physical freshness could shape the outcome of Sunday’s encounter.
