2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 7: Ganiyu Return Boosts Shooting Stars Ahead of Nasarawa Test

Posted : 04 October 2026

Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan have received a timely boost ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday Seven encounter against Nasarawa United, with Wasiu Ganiyu returning to training after a lengthy injury layoff.

Ganiyu sustained the injury during Shooting Stars’ goalless draw against Kwara United in Ilorin toward the end of last season.

The setback ruled the player out for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign, limiting him to just seven appearances for the Oluyole Warriors.

His return to full training provides the Ibadan side with another option as they prepare for the visit of Nasarawa United to the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, on Sunday.

Nasarawa United, currently 13th on the table, will arrive in Ibadan hoping to secure a positive result and arrest their difficult start to the campaign.

The Solid Miners have endured a challenging opening to the season, with head coach Mbwas Mangut acknowledging concerns over their position while pointing to encouraging aspects of their performances.

“If you look at the log, it’s really something to get worried about. Five games, amounting to 15 points, and we have four points from those,” Mangut said.

He, however, noted that the team had shown some positives despite its struggles.

“We have some positives and some negatives to take from the game. Both sides yearned for the result. We had a great game in the first half, conceded an early goal, but we recovered almost immediately,” he added.

Mangut stressed the need for Nasarawa United to put their recent setbacks behind them and concentrate on finding solutions to their poor run.

“We will move on from this phase and stabilise the team going forward. Losing points in every effort put in isn’t the best, but we will work towards it,” he said.

With Ganiyu back in training, Shooting Stars will hope his return can add depth to their squad as they seek to make home advantage count against a Nasarawa United side desperate to revive its campaign.
