2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 7: Bendel Insurance Seek Response as Fearless Barau Visit Benin

Posted : 04 October 2026

Bendel Insurance FC will be aiming to put their Matchday Six defeat behind them when they welcome fearless FC Barau to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Sunday.

The 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 fixture, scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off, presents the Benin Arsenals with an opportunity to respond after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Abia Warriors in Aba.

Ahead of the encounter, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, challenged the players and technical crew to show greater commitment toward the club’s target of finishing among the top three.

Speaking during a meeting with the team before their final training session, Enabulele urged the coaching crew, led by Kennedy Boboye, and the players to improve on the club’s fifth-place finishes in the previous two seasons.

He expressed concern over the team’s away record this season, noting that Bendel Insurance had failed to pick up a point from their three matches on the road.

“I am a goal getter, and I don't settle for being close to hitting my targets. I want you to go for goals,” Enabulele said.

“I want to know exactly what is wrong that we have not gotten any results away from home, not even a draw in the three matches played outside this season.”

The Edo sports commission boss described the 3-0 loss in Aba as disappointing but urged the players to use the home fixture against Barau as an opportunity to regain momentum.

“There should be no excuse on Sunday. Go out there and give us three points against Barau FC and do more in away matches to put us in the proper place,” he added.

Bendel Insurance currently occupy eighth position with nine points from six matches, while Barau FC are third with 12 points after maintaining an unbeaten record.

The visitors will therefore arrive in Benin with confidence, having recorded three wins and three draws from their opening six league matches.

The two sides met twice last season, with their first-round meeting in Kano ending 1-1 before the return fixture in Benin finished goalless.

Sunday’s encounter will consequently pit a Bendel Insurance side seeking a response against a Barau team determined to preserve its unbeaten run and consolidate its position among the early pace-setters.
