Ranchers Bees Technical Adviser Usman Abd’Allah has questioned the officiating in his side’s goalless draw with Rivers United, claiming two penalty appeals were overlooked during their rescheduled Match Day 6 fixture.
The two teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium, but the result was overshadowed by Abd’Allah’s frustration over decisions he believed denied Ranchers Bees valuable points.
The Bees coach admitted that a point was better than leaving the encounter empty-handed but insisted his side deserved more from the contest.
“I think we lost two points. We only have one, which is better than having none. Everyone can see what happened in the game. I have to commend the players despite everything,” Abd’Allah said after the match.
He specifically questioned two incidents in which Ranchers Bees appealed for penalties, arguing that both decisions should have gone in favour of the Kaduna-based side.
“This is where the Nigerian league is at the moment. Sometimes, it is beyond football. You can see two penalties that were not awarded to us,” he said.
Abd’Allah went further to accuse the referee of being biased but said he did not want to dwell excessively on the decisions because the points could no longer be recovered.
“If you look at the game, the referee was totally biased. Again, I don’t want to dwell too much on that because the harm has already been done. The points cannot be recovered,” he added.
According to the Ranchers Bees Technical Adviser, even disciplinary action against the referee would not restore the points his team believed it had been denied.
“Even if you punish the referee, our club has already been punished by him. We can’t get the full points. But it is okay; I’m not trying to incite any violence.”
Abd’Allah’s comments add to growing complaints from opponents of Rivers United over officiating this season.
Nasarawa United Technical Adviser Mangut Mbwas had similarly expressed frustration after his side’s 1-1 draw with Rivers United in their Match Day 4 encounter.
Mbwas claimed Nasarawa United had three penalty appeals during the game, although the visitors eventually received a spot-kick in the 83rd minute, which Musa Yakubu converted to secure a point.
Away from the officiating controversy, Abd’Allah also expressed hope that Ranchers Bees would soon return to their home ground in Kaduna, saying playing away from their traditional base had affected the team.
“Probably when we go back to our home in Kaduna, it will help us because we are like playing away. We have played six matches already this season, and it feels like the same thing,” he said.
The coach believes the presence of their home supporters could provide the team with an important boost as the season progresses.
“Sometimes, when you have your home support, it is good. If Rivers United can come away and get this type of officiating, then the purpose of the league is not justified.”
Despite his frustration, Abd’Allah insisted Ranchers Bees would not allow the disputed decisions to derail their campaign.
“We will go back and not give up. This type of intimidation will not make us give up. We are still pushing, and we will see what we can do.”
Ranchers Bees will now shift attention to their next NPFL assignment against Kwara United, with Abd’Allah targeting a positive result to make up for what he considers two points lost against Rivers United.
“We will go to Kwara and try to recover the lost points here,” he concluded.
