2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 6: Abia Warriors Storm Past Bendel Insurance in Aba

Abia Warriors produced their most emphatic home performance of the season on Sunday, dismantling Bendel Insurance 3–0 at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, in a Matchday 6 encounter of the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League.

The hosts settled the contest with a blistering first-half display, scoring all three goals before the interval to give their supporters plenty to celebrate despite the heavy rain that preceded the encounter.

Abia Warriors came into the match seeking a response following their defeat to Barau in Kano and immediately showed their intent, pressing aggressively and competing strongly for second balls.

Their pressure paid off in the 16th minute when a short corner created the opening for Effimi Nsi to deliver a quality cross into the box, with Ikoi Ettah rising above his marker to head the Warriors in front.

The home side doubled their advantage eight minutes later through Chukwuemeka Obioma.

Ochoche Ngbede picked out space on the right and delivered an inviting cross into the area, allowing Obioma to rise and send a powerful header beyond Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie.

Insurance struggled to contain the hosts and suffered another blow five minutes before the interval when Obioma completed his brace.

The former NPFL highest goal scorer received a pass from Ettah inside the visitors’ penalty area, worked his way into a shooting position and calmly finished past Obasogie to make it 3–0.

Abia Warriors almost added a fourth before half-time when Israel Joseph found himself in a promising position inside the box, but his effort went across the face of goal.

Bendel Insurance made changes after the restart in an attempt to reduce the deficit, but the Benin Arsenal found a determined Warriors defence that remained organised and denied them a route back into the contest.

Obioma came close to completing his hat-trick in the 75th minute, but his header narrowly cleared the crossbar.

The victory represents Abia Warriors’ first home win of the campaign and provides a significant lift after their recent setback in Kano.

With three goals scored and a clean sheet secured, the Warriors will now turn their attention to an away Oriental derby against defending champions Rangers International of Enugu.
