Doma United will face another stern examination of their early-season credentials when they host Plateau United in a Match Day 5 encounter at the Pantami Stadium on Wednesday.

The Gombe-based side remain at the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) despite suffering their first defeat of the campaign against Kano Pillars.

Doma had opened the season with three successive victories without conceding, including a 2-0 win over Enyimba in their previous home outing, before their unbeaten run was ended by a 4-1 defeat in Kano.

Wednesday’s fixture therefore offers Doma an immediate opportunity to restore the winning rhythm that carried them to the summit and demonstrate that the defeat in Kano has not altered their early-season momentum.

However, Plateau United arrive in Gombe with their own confidence boosted by a strong Match Day 4 performance.

The Jos side came from behind to defeat Shooting Stars 3-1, with Jibrin Ibrahim, Seiyefa Jackson and Gideon Monday finding the net after Taheer Abubakar had given the visitors an early lead.

The victory moved Plateau United to seven points from four matches and extended their unbeaten run since their opening-day defeat to Rivers United.

Their recent form gives the visitors reason to approach the Pantami Stadium with ambition, particularly after demonstrating their ability to recover from a difficult start against Shooting Stars.

Doma United, meanwhile, will have home advantage and the added incentive of maintaining their position at the top of the table.
