2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 5: Barau FC Take Top Spot After Abia Warriors Win

Barau FC moved to the top of the 2026/27 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings after defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Wednesday.

The Maliya Boys produced another assured display on home soil to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign, with Joseph Atule and substitute Ibrahim Ayoola providing the goals.

Atule broke the deadlock in the first half, giving Barau the advantage as they went into the interval ahead.

Abia Warriors were unable to find a response after the restart, and Ayoola, introduced from the bench, doubled the hosts’ advantage to secure the three points.

The victory means Barau FC have now gone through their opening five matches without defeat, strengthening their position at the summit while underlining their consistency at the start of the season.

Their latest success also reflects a balanced performance from the Kano-based side, who have combined an effective attack with a defence capable of protecting their leads.

However, the league leaders face a significant test of their credentials in their next two fixtures, both of which will be away from home.

Barau will travel to Lagos to face Sporting Lagos in Match Day 6 before another demanding trip to Benin, where they will confront Bendel Insurance in Match Day 7.

Head coach Eugene Agagbe praised his players for their commitment and determination after the victory, while urging them to maintain their focus.

Agagbe stressed the importance of taking the campaign one match at a time, with maximum points from the upcoming trip to Lagos identified as the next objective.

Having negotiated their first five fixtures without defeat, Barau FC will now seek to demonstrate that their strong start can be sustained beyond their home ground as the NPFL season gathers momentum.
