Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) responded to their previous defeat with a 2-0 victory over Katsina United in their 2026/27 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 5 encounter at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The Oluyole Warriors controlled much of the opening exchanges, applying sustained pressure and creating opportunities as they searched for an early breakthrough.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 18th minute when Ridwan Olanrewaju finished off a promising attacking move to put the hosts ahead.

Katsina United briefly gained possession around the 35th minute and attempted to threaten the 3SC defence, but the hosts remained organised enough to preserve their advantage into the interval.

The visitors' task became more difficult in the 57th minute when they were reduced to 10 men after a foul on Olanrewaju as the striker advanced into a promising position.

Shooting Stars coach Salisu Yusuf immediately sought to exploit the numerical advantage, making a triple substitution three minutes later.

Akintola Damilola, Qamar Adegoke and Aule John were introduced for Taheer Abubakar, Sodiq Ibrahim and Olanrewaju.

The changes strengthened the hosts' attacking threat, with Adegoke extending the lead in the 71st minute after completing a flowing team move.

The second goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters, whose chants and drumming continued as 3SC saw out the remainder of the contest to secure a comfortable victory.

Yusuf described the result as an important morale boost following the team's away loss to Plateau United in the previous matchday.

“The team building is in process; we will keep correcting our mistakes,” he said.

“We are happy that the players took note of the mistakes we corrected after the game against Plateau United.”

The coach reiterated that 3SC's season objective is to secure a continental ticket, expressing confidence in the quality within the squad.

“We have the team and the quality players to achieve it. With continuous commitment, we are very optimistic that we are going to get it,” Yusuf said.

Katsina United coach Azeez Mohammed, meanwhile, pointed to the early goal and subsequent red card as decisive moments in the encounter.

He acknowledged that such results are part of football but said the team would return to the drawing board to address the shortcomings ahead of its next home fixture.

The victory gives 3SC renewed momentum as the Oluyole Warriors continue their campaign with their sights set on a return to continental football.
