2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 4: Rangers Survive Kun Khalifat Fightback in Oriental Derby

Rangers International demonstrated their resilience and attacking strength on Sunday, overcoming a spirited Kun Khalifat FC 4-2 in an entertaining Oriental Derby at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The defending champions appeared to have taken firm control after racing into a two-goal lead, but the hosts mounted a strong second-half response to draw level and put Rangers under sustained pressure.

Rangers opened the scoring through Temitope Folarin before Waheed Adebayo doubled their advantage, giving the Flying Antelopes a 2-0 lead.

Kun Khalifat refused to surrender, however, as Preye Seikorowei pulled one back before Ayuba Umar completed the comeback to make it 2-2.

With the game seemingly heading towards a tense finish, Rangers found another gear in the closing stages.

Chimobi Igwilo emerged as the decisive figure, scoring twice late in the encounter to restore Rangers’ advantage and then put the result beyond the reach of the hosts.

The victory extended Rangers’ unbeaten start to the campaign and took them to seven points from three matches, leaving the champions fifth on the league table with a game in hand.

For Kun Khalifat, the defeat will be particularly disappointing after their impressive recovery from two goals down, but Rangers’ late attacking surge ultimately settled a thrilling Oriental Derby.
