2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 4: Kano Pillars End Doma United’s Perfect Start With 4-1 Win

Kano Pillars brought Doma United’s perfect start to the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season to an end with a commanding 4-1 victory at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, on Sunday.

The Sai Masu Gida returned to competitive action in emphatic fashion, producing a strong first-half performance before weathering a determined response from the visitors and pulling away late in the encounter.

Kano Pillars established their dominance early and were rewarded in the 19th minute when Abdullahi Musa calmly converted Fahad Usman’s well-delivered pass to put the hosts ahead.

The four-time NPFL champions had an opportunity to double their advantage from the penalty spot in the 29th minute after Ahmed Musa was brought down inside the box, but Rabiu Ali sent the spot kick over the crossbar.

Ali quickly made amends, however, scoring three minutes later to make it 2-0. Ubong Friday supplied the assist as Pillars went into the interval with a comfortable advantage.

Doma United returned from the break with greater urgency and reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute through Sadiq Rilwan.

The goal briefly shifted the momentum as the previously unbeaten visitors increased the pressure and began creating problems for the hosts.

Kano Pillars Technical Adviser Daniel Ogunmodede responded with tactical changes, introducing fresh players in midfield and attack to prevent Doma United from sustaining their pressure and to regain control of the contest.

The adjustments paid off.

Ahmed Musa restored Pillars’ two-goal advantage in the 77th minute with an outstanding individual effort, capping an influential performance in which the captain repeatedly unsettled the Doma United defence.

His display earned him the SWAN Man of the Match Award.

A minute later, Ibrahim Sani Halliru and Yahaya Ibrahim came on for Ubong Friday and Rabiu Ali as Pillars continued to manage the closing stages effectively.

Ahmed Musa was subsequently replaced by Nasiru Salihu in the 87th minute, and the substitute added the finishing touch by scoring Pillars’ fourth goal to complete a convincing victory.

The result moved Kano Pillars to seven points from three matches, with the club having a game in hand.

For Doma United, the defeat ended a perfect opening run in which they had collected nine points from their first three matches without conceding a goal.

Ogunmodede praised his players for their preparation and resilience against a Doma United side that had made an impressive start to the campaign.

“We expected a tough game because they have gone three matches unbeaten with nine points and never conceded, but we prepared very well for them.

“Not playing last weekend gave us ample opportunity to prepare more for them and no doubt, you could see they gave us a tough time,” he said.

The Pillars coach also explained the tactical thinking behind his second-half changes.

“We played to our strength. We tried to get two goals in the first half. The goal we conceded after the second half created a lot of pressure for us, which was why we brought in fresh faces in the midfield and attack to stop their centre backs from taking the ball forward,” Ogunmodede said.

Kano Pillars will now shift attention to Match Day 5 when they travel to Lagos on Wednesday to face Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, seeking to build on their impressive victory in Kano.
