2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Match Day 4: Early Itolo Strike Hands Warri Wolves Victory Over Kwara United

Kwara United’s failure to convert their scoring opportunities proved costly as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Warri Wolves in their 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 4 encounter in Ozoro on Sunday.

Warri Wolves made the most of an early opportunity when Eventus Itolo converted a seventh-minute free-kick to give the hosts the lead.

The early setback, however, did little to unsettle the Harmony Boys, who responded by taking greater control of the game and creating openings in their search for an equaliser.

Philip Ozor and Gidado Toyeeb were instrumental in Kwara United’s efforts to build attacks, with Ozor particularly effective in spreading play to the wings and creating spaces for the visitors to exploit.

Jerry Alex and Emmanuel Ekpeyong both came close to restoring parity, but their efforts failed to beat the Warri Wolves defence before the interval.

Kwara United maintained their attacking intent after the restart, forcing the hosts to defend for long spells as they sought a way back into the contest.

Coach Ashifat Sulyman introduced Abdulsalam Abdulsalam for Ekpeyong in an attempt to strengthen the attack, and the substitute soon found himself in a promising position, but the Warri Wolves defence reacted quickly to clear the danger.

As the match entered its final stages, Kwara United intensified the pressure, with Ferinyaro sending a series of dangerous crosses into the penalty area.

The visitors, however, could not find the finishing touch needed to salvage a point, allowing Warri Wolves to hold on for maximum points.

Sulyman expressed disappointment after the match, particularly over his side’s inability to take advantage of the opportunities created.

He described the missed chances as unfortunate but said the team would work to recover the lost points in their subsequent fixtures.

Kwara United will have an opportunity to respond immediately when they host Nasarawa United in a midweek NPFL encounter in Ilorin.
