2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Match Day 11: Enyimba Edge Kun Khalifat to Claim Oriental Derby Victory

Posted : 03 November 2026

Enyimba International secured bragging rights in the Oriental Derby with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kun Khalifat, thanks to Tobi Iyanda's early strike in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 encounter on Sunday.

Iyanda struck in the 15th minute after Obichere beat his markers on the flank before delivering a low cross that the forward converted to give the People's Elephant the advantage.

Kun Khalifat had threatened early, with Onuoha Uchechukwu sending in a dangerous cross in the opening minute, but Oparaocha failed to connect as Enyimba survived the initial scare.

The hosts soon settled into the contest, with Obichere emerging as a constant attacking threat down the flank.

Enyimba had an opportunity to extend their lead in the 20th minute after Ameh handled the ball inside the penalty area. However, goalkeeper Esomchi guessed correctly to his right to save Ihemekwele's spot kick.

The hosts also had to contend with injury setbacks, as Idris Abubakar was forced off with a shoulder problem and replaced by Suraj Ibrahim, while Richards also required attention.

Enyimba resumed the second half with renewed attacking intent, but Ihemekwele's effort from Ganiu's pass was ruled out for offside barely a minute after the restart.

Esomchi remained busy between the posts, denying Obichere in the 54th minute before Ganiu fired narrowly wide after receiving a pass from Iyanda.

The goalkeeper later rushed off his line to thwart substitute Chidera Michael after Ganiu had split the visitors' defence with a well-timed pass.

Kun Khalifat also showed defensive resilience, with Ameh producing a crucial tackle in the 79th minute to prevent Ganiu from racing through on goal.

Late concern followed a head collision involving Chibueze Damian, but the Enyimba player recovered to see out the contest as the hosts held on for all three points.

The victory gives Enyimba a positive start to November and a timely boost ahead of their next league fixture, an away trip to Ranchers Bees in Kaduna on Sunday.
