2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Match Day 11: Doma United Stage Late Comeback to Hold Ikorodu City

Posted : 01 November 2026

Doma United staged a dramatic late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Ikorodu City in their Match Day 11 fixture of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The encounter, played behind closed doors, saw the Savannah Tigers recover from a late deficit, with Philimon Bitrus scoring his second goal in the sixth minute of additional time to rescue a valuable point.

Doma United started brightly, with Sadiq Rilwan coming close to opening the scoring in the 15th minute, only for Ikorodu City’s goalkeeper to push his effort behind for a corner.

The hosts eventually took the lead three minutes later after Tijjani Azeez was brought down inside the penalty area by the visitors’ goalkeeper.

Bitrus converted the resulting spot kick to put Doma United ahead, but Ikorodu City responded in the 24th minute to restore parity at 1-1.

Both teams continued to battle for control, but neither could find the breakthrough before the referee signalled the end of the first half.

Doma United coach Deji Ayeni made a tactical adjustment at the start of the second half, introducing Haruna Abubakar for Usman Rasheed as the hosts sought to regain the advantage.

The contest remained closely fought, with Bitrus receiving a yellow card in the 58th minute before a cooling break interrupted play in the 65th minute.

Ayeni subsequently introduced Simon Daniel, Isah Muhammad and Adegbite Michael for Uche Onwuansoanya, Salomon Chigoziem and Tijjani Azeez as Doma United intensified their search for another goal.

However, Ikorodu City stunned the hosts in the 85th minute, scoring to take a 2-1 lead and place Doma United under pressure.

With the match seemingly slipping away, the Savannah Tigers mounted a late rally, which culminated in Bitrus rising to head home the equaliser in the sixth minute of additional time.

The goal completed his brace and ensured Doma United salvaged a point from an encounter in which they had threatened to leave empty-handed.

The result reflected the hosts’ resilience, as they fought until the final whistle to deny Ikorodu City victory.
