Kwara United suffered a damaging home defeat on Sunday after Bendel Insurance scored twice in three minutes to overturn an early second-half deficit and secure a 2-1 victory in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 encounter in Ilorin.
The Harmony Boys appeared on course for victory after Stephen Gideon broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, but the visitors responded emphatically to turn the contest around.
Both sides had approached the first half cautiously, with Kwara United creating promising opportunities through Aliyu Ferinyaro and Uche Jaguar, only to be denied by Bendel Insurance's resolute defence.
The hosts also suffered an early setback when Anthony Nnamdi was forced off with an injury in the 17th minute, making way for Mighty Emmanuel.
Neither side could find the breakthrough before the interval, with the first half ending goalless.
Kwara United eventually took the lead four minutes after the restart when Ferinyaro's effort was parried by the Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, allowing Gideon to react quickest and convert the rebound.
However, the Benin Arsenal responded almost immediately, with Kayode Oke restoring parity in the 52nd minute after capitalising on a poorly defended loose ball.
The visitors completed their remarkable turnaround three minutes later when Chinedu Nwosu struck in the 55th minute to give Bendel Insurance a 2-1 advantage.
Kwara United subsequently pushed forward in search of an equaliser, introducing tactical changes to revive their attacking threat, but Bendel Insurance defended resolutely to preserve their lead until the final whistle.
Speaking after the encounter, Kwara United coach Ladi Ojokojo, who stood in for Ashifat Suleiman, expressed disappointment with the result but assured supporters that the team would intensify efforts to return to winning ways.
The defeat leaves the Harmony Boys 14th on the league table with 12 points from 11 matches, increasing the pressure on the Ilorin-based side to improve their results.
Kwara United will seek redemption when they travel to face Rangers International in Owerri next weekend.
