2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Match Day 10: Warri Wolves Launch Police Probe After Official’s Assault

Posted : 26 October 2026

Warri Wolves have condemned an alleged assault on a match official following their goalless draw against Kano Pillars in the 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 encounter at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro.

The Seasiders confirmed that the incident occurred after Sunday’s fixture, when an unidentified individual allegedly struck one of the officials in the face, leaving him with a bleeding nose.

According to the club, its secretary, accompanied by security personnel, had escorted the match officials from the pitch to their designated bus when the incident occurred.

Warri Wolves’ medical personnel immediately administered first aid to the injured official before he was taken to hospital for further treatment.

The club disclosed that the matter had been reported to the Ughelli Area Police Division, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the alleged assailant.

Warri Wolves also pledged to cooperate fully with the police and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The club stressed that the incident did not reflect its values, distancing itself from any act of violence, intimidation or hooliganism directed at match officials, players, supporters or other individuals.

It also expressed regret over the incident and apologised to the affected official and football authorities for the distress caused.

Reaffirming its commitment to fair play, discipline and sportsmanship, the club urged supporters and football enthusiasts to remain calm and conduct themselves responsibly at matches.

Warri Wolves wished the injured official a speedy recovery, assuring the football community that it would support efforts to address the matter.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of match officials at NPFL venues, underscoring the need for effective security measures to protect those responsible for enforcing the rules of the game.
