2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Match Day 10: Obiajulu Brace Rescues Ikorodu City Against Shooting Stars

Posted : 26 October 2026

Ikorodu City demonstrated remarkable resilience to recover from a two-goal deficit and hold South-West rivals Shooting Stars to a 2-2 draw in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Sunday.

Donald Obiajulu emerged as the hero for the hosts, scoring in both halves to deny Shooting Stars victory after the visitors had established a commanding early advantage.

The result extended The Oga Boy's unbeaten run against their Ibadan rivals to five consecutive meetings, preserving their recent dominance in the regional rivalry.

Oluyole Warriors made a blistering start, silencing the home supporters when Taofeek Otaniyi opened the scoring in the third minute.

The visitors maintained their attacking momentum, with Desmond Ojietefian doubling their advantage in the 36th minute to put Ikorodu City under considerable pressure.

However, the hosts found a lifeline just before the interval when Obiajulu struck in the 44th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and setting the stage for a determined second-half response.

The goal proved crucial as Ikorodu City returned for the second half with renewed belief, searching for an equaliser to prevent their neighbours from claiming the derby spoils.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 83rd minute when Obiajulu completed his brace, drawing the hosts level and sparking celebrations among the home supporters.

The equaliser ensured both sides shared the points after a contest that swung dramatically from Shooting Stars' early dominance to Ikorodu City's late recovery.

For Shooting Stars, the result represented a missed opportunity to secure an important away victory after building a two-goal cushion. Their inability to protect the lead will raise questions about their game management, particularly after conceding immediately before half-time.

Ikorodu City, meanwhile, will take encouragement from their fighting spirit, although their slow start exposed defensive vulnerabilities that could prove costly in subsequent fixtures.

The draw left Ikorodu City on 13 points and Shooting Stars on 12 points after 10 matches, keeping both clubs within close reach of each other in the league standings.

Ikorodu City will next travel to face Doma United, while Shooting Stars are scheduled to host Abia Warriors as both teams seek to turn their shared point into a stronger result in the next round.
