2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Match Day 10: Niger Tornadoes Stun Abia Warriors with Long-Range Winner

Posted : 26 October 2026

Abia Warriors suffered a frustrating home defeat on Sunday, losing 1-0 to Niger Tornadoes in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium.

The hosts dominated periods of the contest but failed to convert their chances, with Niger Tornadoes capitalising on a second-half opportunity to secure all three points.

Chukwuemeka Obioma came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half, twice striking the crossbar with free kicks in the 23rd and 33rd minutes.

Despite their inability to find the net before the break, Abia Warriors resumed with greater attacking intent, pressing the visitors in search of the opening goal.

However, Niger Tornadoes maintained a disciplined defensive shape before delivering the decisive blow through Wasiu Jimoh, whose long-range effort beat goalkeeper Ali Ishaku.

The goal proved enough to separate both teams, leaving the hosts to rue their missed opportunities.

Abia Warriors almost rescued a point in stoppage time when substitute Shedrack Asiegbu's well-struck free kick struck the crossbar in the first minute of added time.

The defeat leaves the Umuahia side with plenty to address ahead of their next fixture, while Niger Tornadoes will take encouragement from their disciplined performance and valuable away victory.

Abia Warriors will next travel to Ibadan to face Shooting Stars Sports Club at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
