2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL: Inter Lagos Coach Giwa Quits Amid Team's Struggle

Posted : 14 October 2026

Inter Lagos head coach Sakiru Giwa has stepped down from his position following the club’s disappointing start to the 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Lagos-based club announced Giwa’s departure in an official statement, marking an early coaching change for the newly promoted side as they battle to stabilise their campaign.

Giwa played a key role in securing Inter Lagos’ promotion to the NPFL, guiding the club through the Nigeria National League before their elevation to the top flight.

However, the team has struggled to replicate that success in the NPFL, with its poor run of results leaving it rooted to the bottom of the standings.

Inter Lagos have managed just one victory and one draw alongside five defeats in their opening seven matches, while a disciplinary sanction has further compounded their difficulties.

The club were deducted three points and three goals following misconduct involving their officials, increasing the pressure on the team to improve its performances.

Giwa’s exit now leaves Inter Lagos with the task of finding a new technical direction as they seek to arrest their slide and revive their campaign.

The newly promoted side will need to address its inconsistent performances and regain confidence if it is to climb away from the bottom of the table and retain its place among Nigeria’s elite clubs.
