One Touch Football Club of Abuja booked their place in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over defending champions Gwarinpa United FC on Thursday.
The sixth edition of the tournament is currently taking place at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Abuja. The competition is organised by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Football Coaches Council.
The victory showcased One Touch FC’s determination and tactical discipline as they advanced to the final.
The semi-final clash was intense, with both teams creating scoring chances in the first half but failing to convert. In the 44th minute, Tisan Bulus made a threatening run into the opposition box, exploiting gaps in the defence, but couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity.
The breakthrough came in the 50th minute when Micah Rinah found the back of the net, dealing a decisive blow to Gwarinpa United FC’s title defence.
Just four minutes later, One Touch FC’s goalkeeper, Ifeanyi Eden, pulled off a series of crucial saves to maintain his side's slim lead. Despite late pressure from Gwarinpa United FC, they were unable to equalise. The match ended 1–0 in favour of One Touch FC.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Jeffery Okoli expressed pride in his team’s performance. “Our boys worked hard and showed resilience. Beating the defending champions wasn’t easy, but we stayed focused and won,” he said.
He attributed their success to strategic ball movement and well-rehearsed tactics. “Our gameplay revolves around movement and deception. We used that to break through and score,” he added.
Okoli also reflected on the team's previous disappointment, having lost in the semi-final of the last edition to Derby FC. “We’ve gone past our previous limit. Now, we are determined to lift the Unity Cup 2025 trophy,” he said.
One Touch FC’s journey to the final has been anything but smooth. They qualified from Group A as the second-best loser, with nine points, despite suffering a 7–3 defeat to Gwarinpa United FC in their opening match.
Their persistence and growth through the tournament have now earned them a shot at the title.
One Touch FC will face News Boys Football Club of Abuja in the final, scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Area 3 Football Pitch.
A total of 23 teams are participating in the sixth edition of the Unity Cup, which began on June 3 and will conclude on June 28 in Abuja.
