2025 President Federation Cup: Plateau United FC dumps Osun United FC out of competition

Posted : 17 April 2025

The Peace Boys on Wednesday faced South West opposition, Osun United, to stake a claim for a place in the last 8 of the President Federation Cup.

The Peace Boys started strong, gaining possession and making penetrating moves against a very physical opposition, whose aggressive approach led to a number of tackles on the Peace Boys.

Vincent Temitope, with bandages wrapped around his neck region, missed a sitter after 8 minutes, while Sam Pam rose to connect with a delivery after 17 minutes.

Fourteen minutes later, Plateau United completed some fine combination play in the opposition’s area, with Mancha Sabbath’s sublime cutback giving Sam Pam the opportunity to slot the ball past the goalkeeper for the opening goal.

As the intensity of the game increased, Osun United pressed high to secure an equalizer, an effort that paid off when Ganiyu Gberefun rose high to head the ball past Emeka Nwabulu, leveling the score at 1-1 as the teams headed into the break.

The second half proved more competitive, with both sides employing various strategies to take control of the match.

Kalu Samuel’s fierce attempt from distance looked like it would find the back of the net, but it didn’t, and David Onovo’s close-header off Daniel Itodo’s supply also failed to secure a victory.

To seal the win, Vincent Temitope’s supply into the opposition area was powerfully met by Daniel Itodo’s magnificent header, handing the Peace Boys a 2-1 victory and a spot in the last 8 of the ongoing President Federation Cup at the expense of Osun United.

Despite their unbeaten run ending in a loss to Nasarawa United on Sunday in Match Day 33, the Peace Boys will hope to continue this winning trajectory as they turn their focus to their next NPFL Match Day 34 clash against Akwa United in Jos.

Meanwhile, Plateau United's Technical Adviser, Mbwas Mangut, expressed satisfaction after the win, admitting the need to shift focus to the next NPFL schedule in Jos as an immediate priority.
