2025 President Federation Cup: Fearless Rice Boys Storm Lagos Ahead of Historic Final

Renowned for their giant-killing run in the 2025 President Federation Cup, finalists Abakaliki FC have landed in Lagos ahead of their historic showdown with Kwara United.

Fondly called the Rice Boys, the team—led by head coach Ifeanyi Onyedika—is set to make its first-ever appearance in a Federation Cup final on Saturday, determined to leave a lasting mark.

The team arrived early in Lagos to acclimatize and maintain focus ahead of what promises to be a thrilling finale at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Having begun their campaign as a second-tier NNL side, Abakaliki FC will now contest the final as a third-tier NLO team—a twist of fate that puts them on the brink of history. If successful, they will become the first third-tier club to win Nigeria’s oldest football competition in 41 years, a feat last achieved by Leventis United in 1984.

  • Another dramatic 5–4 penalty shootout win over Nasarawa United in the quarter-finals
  • And a tense 5–4 penalty triumph over Ikorodu City in the semi-finals
