 
                     
                     
                     
                     
                                            TotalEnergies, the principal sponsor of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), has officially launched the AFCON Trophy Tour in Lagos, marking the first public display of the gold-plated trophy, valued at $4 million, at the company’s headquarters in Victoria Island.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Samba Seye, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, said the tour was designed to celebrate Africa’s deep passion for football. In partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the initiative will bring the AFCON trophy closer to millions of fans across five African countries.
“The trophy begins its exceptional journey in Lagos today, uniting football fans to experience the excitement of Africa’s biggest football event. Hosting the first stage here underscores football as a symbol of energy, joy, and unity,” Dr. Seye said.
Abdullahi Umar, General Manager of Retail and Cards at TotalEnergies, described Nigeria as a nation where football is integral to culture and history.
“Nigeria has shaped African football with legendary players and unforgettable moments. The trophy tour will cover Nigeria, Angola, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco, bringing the spirit of AFCON to millions of fans,” Umar noted.
He added that the trophy represents unity, resilience, and continental glory, and emphasized that the 24 competing nations will vie for this iconic symbol of achievement.
Mrs. Olubunmi Popoola-Mordi, Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Services at TotalEnergies, highlighted the event as a celebration of teamwork and national pride. Meanwhile, Mrs. Olunfunmilayo Gombe, Marketing Manager, expressed gratitude to CAF, the National Sports Commission, the NFF, media partners, and fans for their support in making the tour a reality.
The parade moved through Eko Towers, Victoria Island, and Ikeja, thrilling cheering crowds and giving Nigerian football fans a rare opportunity to see the trophy up close.
