Gabon will conclude their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a final Group F fixture against defending champions Côte d’Ivoire at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on 31 December. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
Gabon are already eliminated from the tournament, while Côte d’Ivoire require at least a draw to secure progression to the Round of 16.
This match marks the first encounter between the two sides at the AFCON finals. Across all competitions, the teams have met 18 times, with Côte d’Ivoire holding the advantage with 10 wins to Gabon’s four, alongside four draws.
Their most recent meetings occurred in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying, with Côte d’Ivoire winning 1-0 in Korhogo on 7 June 2024 and the return fixture ending 0-0 in Franceville on 9 September 2025.
Gabon have experienced a challenging tournament, exiting the group stage for the sixth time in nine AFCON appearances.
Their campaign featured defeats to Cameroon and Mozambique, conceding three goals against Mozambique for the first time in an AFCON match since 2000.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored Gabon’s seventh AFCON goal against Mozambique, becoming the 14th Marseille player to score at the tournament and the second-oldest scorer at 36 years and 193 days.
Côte d’Ivoire began the tournament with a win over Mozambique and a 1-1 draw against Cameroon. They have scored in all five matches under coach Emerse Faé and are on course to reach the knockout stage for a third consecutive tournament.
Amad Diallo has scored in the opening two matches, and a goal against Gabon would make him the first Ivorian to score in all three group matches at a single AFCON edition.
The match promises a compelling showdown as Gabon seeks to end their campaign on a high note, while Côte d’Ivoire aims to secure their spot in the Round of 16 and maintain their strong continental record.
