Rovers FC of Calabar have officially unveiled Coach Abdullahi Umar as the club’s new Technical Adviser, marking a renewed drive for excellence in the ongoing 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, was attended by the Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Lawrence Etta; Rovers FC Chairman, Etim Okon; members of the club’s management; and the technical department.
In his address, Etta warmly welcomed Coach Umar to the Cross River sporting community and expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the team. He encouraged the new Technical Adviser to leverage his vast experience as the league enters a crucial stage, stressing the need for focus, discipline, and proactive leadership to achieve positive results in the second half of the NNL season.
Also speaking, Etim Okon described Umar’s appointment as a strategic move aimed at restoring Rovers FC’s competitive edge. He entrusted the new Technical Adviser with full responsibility for the club’s technical department, tasking him with reviving the proud tradition and fighting spirit of the club.
Okon also acknowledged the contributions of the previous technical crew, noting that the quest for improvement necessitated a change in leadership.
In his response, Coach Abdullahi Umar expressed gratitude to the Cross River State Sports Commission, the club’s management, and the board for the confidence placed in him. He described his appointment as an honour and pledged total commitment to rebuilding the team and returning Rovers FC to its rightful place in Nigerian football.
“I assure the management and fans that I will give my very best to bring back the glory of this great club,” Umar said.
The unveiling generated excitement among the club’s supporters, who turned out in large numbers to witness what many hope will mark the beginning of a new era. Fans expressed optimism about the appointment and urged the coach to deliver results capable of propelling Rovers FC toward promotion for the remainder of the season.
