The battle for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title took an intriguing turn on Matchday Two of the Super Six in Port Harcourt, with Nasarawa Amazons emerging as the early pacesetters while newcomers Abia Angels continued to impress and Edo Queens reignited their challenge.
After two rounds of fixtures, no side has managed to establish complete dominance, but Nasarawa Amazons have gained a valuable advantage following another impressive outing that saw them maintain a perfect record.
The Lafia-based side demonstrated remarkable resilience in the day's marquee encounter against defending champions Bayelsa Queens. Despite falling behind shortly after the restart through Chiamaka Ezekwugo's opener, Nasarawa refused to surrender.
Farikikyen Moses sparked the comeback with an equaliser ten minutes from regulation time before Ayatsea Hembafan delivered the decisive blow deep into stoppage time, completing a dramatic 2-1 victory.
The result elevated Nasarawa Amazons to six points from two matches and established them as the team to beat heading into the next phase of the competition.
Elsewhere, Super Six debutants Abia Angels continued their dream start by recording a historic first victory at the championship playoffs. The Umuahia club edged Rivers Angels 1-0 thanks to a first-half header from Winner David.
Abia Angels displayed tactical discipline and defensive solidity throughout the encounter, successfully neutralising Rivers Angels' attacking threats to secure a memorable triumph.
The victory moved Abia Angels to four points from their opening two matches and strengthened belief that they could emerge as genuine contenders despite their newcomer status.
Former champions Edo Queens also made a significant statement after recovering from their opening-day disappointment with a commanding 4-1 victory over FC Robo Queens.
Chioma Moses set the tone with two first-half goals that handed Edo Queens a comfortable advantage before the break. Precious Oscar and Mary Mamudu added further goals in the second half as the Benin-based side produced one of the most convincing performances of the tournament so far.
Florence Godwin Freda pulled one back late for FC Robo Queens, but it proved little more than a consolation as Edo Queens cruised to their first victory of the campaign.
The result lifts Edo Queens back into contention and underlines their determination to challenge for another league crown.
