2025/2026 NWFL Super 6: Nasarawa Amazons eye crucial Rivers Angels victory

Nasarawa Amazons will be aiming to finish their 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six campaign on a high when they face hosts Rivers Angels in a decisive Matchday 5 encounter in Port Harcourt.

The Lafia-based side remain firmly in the title race despite being frustrated by Abia Angels in a goalless draw on Friday. The result left the Amazons in third position with seven points, level with Bayelsa Queens but separated by goal difference heading into the final round of matches.

Assistant coach Seyi Olaoye acknowledged the disappointment of dropping points against Abia Angels but insisted his side must quickly shift focus to the challenge ahead.

"The draw is disappointing because it was not the result we wanted. We played much better, dominated possession and created several chances, but we could not convert them," Olaoye said.

Despite the setback, the former champions know victory over Rivers Angels could significantly boost their chances of claiming the title, depending on the outcome of the other crucial fixture between leaders Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens.

Olaoye expressed confidence in his team's mentality and readiness for the decisive clash, stressing that the players remain united and focused on securing all three points.

"We are going all out to get the win against Rivers Angels and then see what happens in the other game. The players have worked hard throughout the competition, and we believe we still have a chance," he stated.

The coach also dismissed suggestions of a growing rivalry with Abia Angels following the recent meetings between both teams, describing their latest results as part of football's unpredictability.

With the title race set for a dramatic conclusion, Nasarawa Amazons know only a victory against Rivers Angels will give them a realistic opportunity of ending the season as champions.

Securing maximum points in Port Harcourt remains the primary objective for the Lafia Landladies as the tournament reaches its climax. The players understand the stakes and are prepared to deliver a performance worthy of potential league champions.
