Edo Queens delivered their most commanding performance of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super 6 campaign on Wednesday, overwhelming Abia Angels 6-2 in a thrilling Match Day 3 encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The reigning champions bounced back in style from their opening-day setback against Nasarawa Amazons, producing a devastating attacking display spearheaded by the sensational Chioma Moses, whose four-goal haul proved too much for the resilient Abia Angels side.
The Benin-based club wasted no time asserting their authority as Chioma Moses struck just three minutes into the contest to hand Edo Queens an early lead. Abia Angels, who had earned a reputation as giant killers in the tournament, responded positively and restored parity in the 11th minute through Mariam Abdulrasheed.
With the contest finely balanced, Chioma once again stepped up for Edo Queens, finding the back of the net in the closing moments of the first half to restore her side's advantage and send them into the break with renewed confidence.
Coach Moses Aduku's tactical adjustments after halftime transformed the game completely. The introduction of Atume Doosur injected fresh energy into Edo Queens' attack, and the substitute made an immediate impact with two quick goals in the 53rd and 56th minutes, stretching the lead and putting the match beyond the reach of Abia Angels.
The goals continued to flow as Chioma Moses completed her hat-trick in the 72nd minute before adding a fourth goal eleven minutes from time, taking her tally for the afternoon to an impressive four goals and underlining her growing status as one of the league's most lethal forwards.
Abia Angels managed a late consolation through Blessing Saleh in the 87th minute, but it did little to alter the outcome as Edo Queens cruised to a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
The result takes Edo Queens to six points from three matches, reigniting their title ambitions ahead of a crucial clash against hosts Rivers Angels on Friday. Having lost narrowly to Nasarawa Amazons in their opening fixture before defeating FC Robo Queens 4-1, the defending champions appear to be gathering momentum at the right time.
For Abia Angels, the defeat represented a rare off day after impressive performances against Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels. Despite entering the match as one of the tournament's surprise packages, they struggled to cope with the pace, movement, and clinical finishing of the Edo Queens attack.
Speaking after the match, head coach Moses Aduku and team captain Deborah Odiagbe expressed delight with the performance, praising the players' commitment and assuring supporters that the team would continue to fight for positive results in the remaining fixtures.
Also reacting to the emphatic victory, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, commended the players for their professionalism and determination.
"This is a remarkable performance from our queens, and we must never relent but keep winning. The confidence, teamwork and hunger for goals displayed on the pitch reflect the character of this team. We are proud of you and will continue to encourage you to keep pushing until the ultimate goal is achieved," Enabulele stated.
The Sports Commission boss reserved special praise for four-goal hero Chioma Moses while acknowledging the collective effort of the entire squad in securing one of the biggest wins of the Super 6 tournament so far.
With confidence soaring and goals flowing freely, Edo Queens have firmly re-established themselves as serious contenders for the NWFL Premiership crown.
This emphatic victory underscores the defending champions' tactical resilience and attacking depth as the postseason tournament intensifies. By capitalizing on their scoring opportunities and maintaining pressure, the Benin-based side has sent a strong message to their championship rivals. The squad remains focused on sustaining this high standard of performance to secure the league title in their upcoming fixtures.
