FC Robo Queens have breathed new life into their 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super 6 campaign with a superb 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons in their Match Day 3 clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Coming into the encounter without a win in the playoffs, the Lagos-based side delivered a disciplined and clinical performance to hand the title-chasing Amazons their first defeat of the tournament and significantly alter the complexion of the championship race.
Nasarawa Amazons had entered the fixture full of confidence after consecutive victories over Edo Queens and defending champions Bayelsa Queens. However, FC Robo Queens rose to the occasion, frustrating their opponents throughout a tightly contested first half.
Both teams created promising opportunities before the break, but neither side could find the decisive touch as the opening 45 minutes ended goalless.
The game sprang to life after the restart as FC Robo Queens increased their attacking intensity and began to exert greater pressure on the Nasarawa backline.
Their persistence paid off in the 59th minute when Ajakaye capitalized on a defensive mistake to break the deadlock and put the Lagos girls in front.
Five minutes later, the forward turned provider, delivering a well-timed assist for Kami Adegbuyi, who calmly slotted home to double FC Robo's advantage and leave Nasarawa Amazons with a mountain to climb.
In response, the Lafia-based side introduced Shobowale for Ayatsea Hembafan in an attempt to spark a comeback.
The substitute injected energy into the attack and came close to reducing the deficit, including an effort that rattled the woodwork, but FC Robo's defence stood firm.
Goalkeeper Unachukwu Udoka also produced a series of important saves to keep the Amazons in the contest, yet FC Robo Queens remained organized and composed to secure a memorable victory at the final whistle.
Despite the setback, Nasarawa Amazons Assistant Coach Olaoye Oluwaseyi insisted his team remains focused on its title ambition.
"That's football. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. We win as a team and lose as a team.
"Before the Super Six started, we stated that we wanted to compete and fight for the title, and that remains our objective. The competition is still open."
The defeat leaves the Super 6 title race finely balanced heading into Match Day 4, while FC Robo Queens will take renewed confidence from a result that underlines their ability to compete with the league's best teams.
Nasarawa Amazons will look to bounce back when they face Abia Angels on Friday, June 12, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 pm.
This crucial outcome disrupts the momentum at the top of the standings and ensures an intense conclusion to the postseason tournament. With every team forced to maximize their upcoming fixtures, the race for the championship trophy promises further drama. The Lagos side has proven that stakes remain high for all contenders as the competition reaches its final stretch.
