2025/2026 NWFL Super 6 Match Day 2: FC Robo Queens bows out of league crown equation after second loss

Posted : 09 June 2026

FC Robo Queens' hopes of challenging for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six title suffered a major setback after a heavy 4-1 defeat to former champions Edo Queens on Match Day 2 in Port Harcourt.

Having narrowly lost 3-2 to Rivers Angels in their opening fixture, Robo Queens entered the contest knowing that anything short of victory would leave their title aspirations hanging by a thread. Instead, they were comprehensively outplayed by an Edo Queens side determined to recover from their opening-day defeat to Nasarawa Amazons.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Robo Queens started brightly and nearly grabbed an early lead.

Opeyemi Ajakaye sliced through the Edo defence and beat the goalkeeper, but her effort crashed against the woodwork before being cleared away.

That missed opportunity proved costly as Edo Queens gradually took control of proceedings.

The Benin-based side threatened on several occasions, with Favour Nkwocha coming close before Chioma Moses eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute.

The forward showed great skill to evade two defenders before unleashing a powerful strike beyond the goalkeeper.

Moses doubled the advantage just before halftime, finishing off a swift counterattack with composure after holding off her marker to give Edo a comfortable 2-0 lead at the interval.

Edo Queens continued their dominance after the restart. Substitute Precious Oscar made an immediate impact, firing home from inside the penalty area in the 59th minute to stretch the lead to three goals.

Four minutes later, Moses turned provider as her low cross from the left found Mary Mamudu, who calmly converted to make it 4-0 and put the result beyond doubt.

Robo Queens managed to reduce the deficit late in the game when Florence Godwin Freda tapped home following sustained pressure, but the consolation goal was little more than a footnote in a one-sided encounter.

The victory breathes new life into Edo Queens' title pursuit after their opening defeat, while Robo Queens, with two losses from two matches, now find themselves virtually out of contention for the league crown as the Super Six race gathers momentum.

The definitive 4-1 result underscores the shifting dynamics within the tournament as teams battle for supremacy. Edo Queens successfully revived their campaign through clinical finishing, whereas FC Robo Queens must now reassess their strategy after falling behind in the standings. This crucial Match Day 2 fixture sets a demanding benchmark for the remaining rounds of the competition.
