Posted : 13 June 2026

Edo Queens took a significant step towards reclaiming the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title after overcoming hosts Rivers Angels 2-1 in a fiercely contested South-South derby on Matchday 4 of the Super 6 playoffs.

With the title race entering a crucial stage, the Benin-based side delivered a composed performance to secure all three points and maintain their position at the top of the standings heading into the final round of matches.

The encounter produced moments of quality and drama, with Edo Queens drawing first blood in the 39th minute through the in-form Precious Oscar.

The forward continued her impressive scoring streak in the tournament, giving her side a deserved lead before the halftime break.

Rivers Angels, backed by their home supporters, emerged stronger in the second half and eventually found a way back into the contest.

Substitute Abasiofon Uwah restored parity in the 72nd minute, raising hopes of a comeback and setting the stage for a tense finish.

However, Edo Queens responded like true title contenders. Just five minutes after conceding, Chioma Moses produced the decisive moment of the match, finding the back of the net to restore her side’s advantage and ultimately seal a vital victory.

The result not only handed Edo Queens local bragging rights but also ensured they retained control of the championship race. With nine points from four matches, they remain leaders of the Super 6 standings.

Despite the victory, the title race remains wide open. Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons are both within striking distance on seven points, meaning the destiny of the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership crown will be determined on the final day.

As the competition heads into its concluding round in Port Harcourt, Edo Queens have placed themselves in pole position.

Yet, with their closest challengers still firmly in contention, fans can expect a thrilling finale as three clubs battle for the ultimate prize in Nigerian women’s football.

This critical victory underscores the determination of Edo Queens as they navigate the immense pressure of the championship playoffs. By quickly reclaiming the lead after conceding, the Benin-based side demonstrated the resilience required of potential champions. As the tournament reaches its climax, football enthusiasts are guaranteed a spectacular final match day with the league crown hanging in the balance.
