2025/2026 NWFL Super 6: Brilliant Edo Queens thrash Abia Angels 5-2

Posted : 11 June 2026

Edo Queens delivered a ruthless attacking display to overpower Abia Angels 5-2 in their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super 6 clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

Inspired by the outstanding performance of Chioma Moses, who scored twice and played a decisive role in two other goals, the defending champions secured their second consecutive victory in the playoffs and strengthened their title ambitions.

Fresh from their convincing win over FC Robo Queens, Edo Queens entered the contest full of confidence, while debutants Abia Angels sought to preserve their unbeaten run in the championship playoffs.

The Benin-based side wasted little time in asserting their dominance. Just three minutes into the encounter, a costly error by Abia Angels goalkeeper Fatimah Oloko gifted Edo Queens the opening goal.

Failing to hold onto a cross delivered into the penalty area, Oloko watched helplessly as Chioma Moses reacted quickest to nod the loose ball into the net.

Abia Angels, however, responded positively and restored parity shortly afterwards.

Edo Queens goalkeeper Doris Ohia was guilty of a similar mistake, misjudging an in-swinging delivery that fell kindly for Mariam Abdulrasheed, who calmly lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Despite the setback, Edo Queens continued to look the more dangerous side and regained the lead moments before halftime.

A long clearance released Moses behind the Abia Angels defence, and the striker showcased her pace, strength, and composure by holding off two defenders before firing a low finish into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes after entering the pitch, substitute Precious Oscar made an immediate impact in the 52nd minute. Moses again turned provider, racing clear on a counter-attack before squaring for Oscar to tap home and extend the advantage to 3-1.

Abia Angels struggled to cope with Edo Queens' pace in transition, and the pressure continued to mount. Atume Doosuur joined the scoresheet shortly afterwards, finishing off another swift attacking move after beating her marker and calmly converting past the exposed goalkeeper.

The contest was effectively settled in the 72nd minute when Oloko endured another difficult moment. Attempting to deal with a corner kick delivered by Moses, the goalkeeper fumbled the ball into her own net, handing Edo Queens a commanding five-goal tally.

To their credit, Abia Angels continued to push forward and were rewarded late in the game. Blessing Saleh connected brilliantly with a counter-attacking move in the 87th minute, heading home to reduce the deficit and add some respectability to the scoreline.

However, the late strike did little to alter the outcome as Edo Queens comfortably saw out proceedings to record a convincing 5-2 victory.

The result not only ended Abia Angels' unbeaten start to the Super 6 but also underlined Edo Queens' credentials as serious contenders for the NWFL Premiership crown, with Chioma Moses once again proving to be the driving force behind their impressive campaign.

This dominant victory firmly establishes Edo Queens at the forefront of the championship conversation. By dismantling a previously unbeaten opponent, the defending champions have sent a clear message regarding their readiness to retain the title.
