Rivers Angels head coach Tosan Blankson has lamented his side's defensive lapses after a 2-1 defeat to Edo Queens further compounded the club's disappointing campaign at the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six in Port Harcourt.
The Jewels of Rivers produced an energetic display against the league leaders but were ultimately punished for avoidable mistakes, with goals from Precious Oscar and Chioma Moses securing all three points for Edo Queens. Abasiofon Uwah's strike briefly restored hope for the hosts, but it was not enough to prevent another setback.
The result leaves Rivers Angels in fifth position with three points from four matches, with only a final-day encounter against Nasarawa Amazons remaining.
Speaking after the match, Blankson expressed regret over the outcome and offered an apology to the club's supporters, acknowledging that the team had fallen short of expectations.
"We had another disappointing game today, not because of the performance but because of the result. The girls gave everything, but we know our fans always want us to win," he said.
The Rivers Angels tactician identified errors at crucial moments as the major reason for the defeat.
"We want to say sorry to our fans for not delivering. We have failed our fans again. If you watched the game, you would see the impact of the mistakes we made, and those errors resulted in the goals we conceded."
Despite the loss, Blankson defended his players' effort and insisted that strong performances do not always guarantee positive outcomes.
"It is not always about how well you play. Sometimes you can play very good football and still not get the result you deserve," he added.
Rivers Angels will now look to salvage some pride in their final Super Six fixture against Nasarawa Amazons as they seek to end their campaign on a positive note.
The defeat highlights the critical impact of defensive lapses on the team's tournament aspirations in Port Harcourt. By addressing these defensive errors and maintaining their energetic play, Rivers Angels will focus on securing a victory in their ultimate encounter to give their supporters a positive finale.
