2025/2026 NWFL Matchday 4: Etim’s Late Penalty Save Earns Sunshine Queens Vital Away Point

Sunshine Queens goalkeeper Bright Etim delivered a standout performance, capped by a late penalty save, to earn the Akure-based side a vital away point in their Matchday Four fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) against Ahudiyannem Queens at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Coming off a convincing 2–0 home victory over Dannaz Ladies, Sunshine Queens entered the contest with confidence and clear attacking intent. Ahudiyannem Queens, however, set up in a disciplined and tactical manner, eager to halt their opponents’ momentum and secure much-needed points.

The first half was played at a brisk tempo, with both sides showing attacking ambition. Despite several promising moves and half-chances at both ends, strong defensive organization and alert goalkeeping ensured the opening 45 minutes ended without a goal.

After the interval, the intensity remained high. Sunshine Queens stayed true to their game plan, relying on quick transitions and solid defensive structure, while Ahudiyannem Queens increased the pressure in search of a breakthrough. Throughout the second half, Bright Etim made a series of composed saves to keep her side in the contest.

Late drama unfolded when Ahudiyannem Queens were awarded a penalty, igniting celebrations among the home fans who sensed a decisive winner. Etim, however, rose to the occasion, producing a brilliant spot-kick save to deny the hosts and preserve the deadlock.

The goalless draw marks Sunshine Queens’ second away draw of the season, to go with a home win against Dannaz Ladies and a home loss to FC Robo Queens. With five points from four matches, they sit fifth in Group B of the NWFL standings, maintaining steady progress in their campaign.
