2025/2026 NWFL Matchday 11: Edo Queens End Heartland Queens' Perfect Home Record

Heartland Queens suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Edo Queens on Matchday 11 of the Nigeria Women Football League at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, marking their first home loss of the season.

The hosts started brightly, dominating possession and pressing high up the pitch as they searched for an early breakthrough.

Heartland Queens displayed attacking intent, carving out half-chances and testing the Edo Queens backline, but the visitors remained compact defensively, soaking up pressure and forcing the first half to end goalless.

After the restart, Edo Queens emerged with renewed energy, matching the intensity of the home side in midfield battles and transition play.

The contest became more balanced, with both teams probing for openings in a tightly contested encounter.

The decisive moment arrived in the 72nd minute when Kafayat Mafisere produced a moment of quality. Her long-range free kick curled beyond the reach of Heartland goalkeeper Christiania Obia, finding the back of the net to give the visitors a crucial lead.

Heartland Queens pushed forward in search of an equalizer, committing bodies into attack and attempting to stretch Edo Queens' defensive lines. However, the Benin-based side showed resilience and game management, holding their shape and seeing out the game to secure all three points.

The result sees Heartland Queens drop to sixth position on the league table, while Edo Queens consolidate their place in second. The Owerri Landladies will aim to return to winning ways in their next fixture.

Edo Queens delivered a composed and disciplined performance at the Dan Anyiam Stadium to end Heartland Queens' unbeaten home run in the 2025/2026 NWFL season. Kafayat Mafisere's 72nd-minute free kick proved to be the decisive moment in a hard-fought contest. The result shifts the league table dynamics, with Edo Queens firmly establishing themselves as title contenders in second place.
