Already assured of a place in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six, FC Robo Queens wrapped up their regular season campaign on a winning note after defeating Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The Match Day 18 encounter lived up to its billing as both sides displayed attacking intent and tactical discipline in what served as a preview of the intensity expected at the Super Six playoffs.
The hosts struck first in the 25th minute through Ayakayi, who finished clinically past goalkeeper Jennifer Ukam after a lively attacking move to hand FC Robo a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
FC Robo returned for the second half with renewed energy and quickly extended their lead five minutes after the restart. Adegbuyi connected perfectly with a delivery from the left flank to make it 2-0 and put the Lagos side firmly in control.
Nasarawa Amazons, however, responded positively and began to dominate possession while creating several chances in search of a way back into the contest.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the 75th minute when Ayatsea Hembafan calmly slotted home to reduce the deficit.
The closing stages saw both teams push relentlessly, with the Amazons chasing an equaliser and FC Robo looking to add a third goal, but neither side could alter the scoreline further as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts.
Speaking after the match, Nasarawa Amazons head coach, Christopher Danjuma, said the fixture provided an opportunity to assess the depth of his squad ahead of upcoming competitions.
“We used this game to test the strength of the squad and give opportunities to players who haven’t had enough playing time. Every game counts, and this is part of our preparation for the next competition,” he said.
“As we head into the Super Six, we are focused on improving from last season. Goal scoring is a collective responsibility, and we are working across all areas of the team.”
Despite the defeat, Nasarawa Amazons finished second in Group B and will now shift attention to the NWFL Super Six and the President Federation Cup, while FC Robo Queens will take confidence from the victory into the decisive phase of the campaign.
The result highlights the competitive nature of both teams as they prepare for the high-stakes playoffs. With both sides having secured their places among the elite, this encounter serves as a vital learning experience to fine-tune their strategies for the challenges ahead in the Super Six.
