2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 18: Heartland Queens end season on winning note against Adamawa Queens

Heartland Queens brought their 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League campaign to a thrilling conclusion with a narrow 1-0 victory over Adamawa Queens at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The Owerri Landladies controlled much of the contest from the start, dictating possession and pressing aggressively in search of an early breakthrough.

Their attacking intent kept Adamawa Queens pinned back for long periods, but the visitors remained resilient in defence.

Adamawa Queens goalkeeper Echefu emerged as one of the standout performers of the encounter, producing several crucial saves to frustrate the hosts and keep the game level.

Her impressive reflexes denied Heartland Queens on multiple occasions as the match looked destined to end goalless.

With time running out, Heartland Queens finally found the decisive moment in the 87th minute through their inspirational captain, Chimebere Opara.

The skipper reacted swiftly inside the box to convert from close range, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home fans.

The dramatic late victory ensured Heartland Queens wrapped up the season in fifth position with 22 points, finishing just above Adamawa Queens, who ended the campaign in sixth place despite a spirited performance.

Following the conclusion of the NWFL regular season, both sides will now turn attention to the President Federation Cup as they prepare for the next phase of competition.
