Bayelsa Queens underlined their growing status as serious title contenders in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership with a commanding 3-0 display against Adamawa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Despite the scoreline suggesting a routine outing, the contest had its tense moments early on. Adamawa Queens nearly stunned the hosts in the 27th minute following a misplaced back-pass, but goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku produced a sharp save to preserve parity. The visitors remained dangerous and struck the woodwork again in the 33rd minute, signaling their intent.
However, Bayelsa Queens gradually imposed control and found the breakthrough just before halftime. Sofiat Bankole calmly opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, rewarding the home side’s patience and composure.
The second half saw Bayelsa Queens manage the game effectively, limiting Adamawa’s attacking threats while waiting for the right moment to strike again.
That moment arrived late on, as Delight Isaac sealed the victory in the 88th minute, putting the result beyond doubt and capping a professional performance.
Speaking after the match, head coach George Iderikumo highlighted his team’s discipline and adherence to strategy as key to the victory.
"Every game day, we go out there with a plan and the desire to get all three points.
Today worked out well for us. It was important to stay calm, remain patient, and take our chances when they came and that’s exactly what we did," he said.
He also acknowledged the challenge posed by the visitors and the competitive nature of the league.
"We have to be happy for the victory, but to be sincere, the game was tough.
The players should continue to believe in themselves and do so with a positive character as the Super Six is fast approaching," coach George Iderikumo added.
Maintaining top spot in Group A with 34 points, Bayelsa Queens continue to build momentum at a crucial stage of the season.
With the Super Six looming, their blend of composure, resilience, and clinical finishing suggests a side fully focused on keeping their title ambitions alive.
This latest victory solidifies their position as the team to beat in the championship race. As they prepare for the playoffs, Bayelsa Queens look poised to translate their regular-season dominance into ultimate success on the national stage.
