2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 15: Osun Babes edge Nasarawa Amazons to boost survival hopes

Posted : 17 April 2026

Osun Babes delivered a disciplined and resolute performance to secure a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Nasarawa Amazons in their 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Matchday 15 encounter in Ile-Ogbo, Osun State.

In a tightly contested fixture, the hosts made their moment count, with Sharon Shomuyiwa emerging as the difference-maker after calmly converting a 30th-minute penalty.

The goal ultimately separated both sides in a match defined more by structure and resilience than attacking fluency.

Despite arriving with strong intent and determination, the Lafia-based side struggled to translate possession into clear-cut chances.

Known for their attacking threat, Nasarawa Amazons found it difficult to break down a well-organized Osun Babes defence that remained compact throughout the contest.

Osun Babes, on their part, executed a disciplined game plan absorbing pressure and maintaining shape, particularly in the second half when the visitors increased their attacking tempo.

The hosts showed composure under pressure, effectively managing the game and limiting the Amazons to half-chances.

The second half saw a more urgent Nasarawa Amazons side push higher up the pitch in search of an equaliser, but their efforts were repeatedly thwarted by a resilient defensive setup and a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

At full-time, Osun Babes walked away with maximum points, a result that not only boosts their campaign but also deals a blow to Nasarawa Amazons’ push for a Super Six spot.

The defeat leaves the Lafia Landladies still second in Group B with 26 points after 15 matches, but with increasing pressure heading into their next fixture against Confluence Queens, where a response will be crucial to keeping their qualification hopes firmly on track.

The hard-earned victory provides Osun Babes with a vital lifeline in their quest to avoid relegation as the season reaches its climax. While Nasarawa Amazons remain in contention for the Super Six, this setback highlights the narrow margins for error in Group B. Both teams now shift their focus to the final matches, where every point will determine their ultimate fate in the league.
