2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 14: Second-Half blitz powers Bayelsa Queens past Ibom Angels

Posted : 09 April 2026

Bayelsa Queens delivered a commanding second-half performance to secure a convincing 3-0 victory over Ibom Angels in their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Match Day 14 clash at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

While the scoreline suggests total dominance, the opening half told a different story. Ibom Angels held their own for long spells and nearly stunned the hosts just before the break, but goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu produced a crucial save in the 44th minute to keep Bayelsa Queens level heading into halftime.

The game, however, swung dramatically in the early moments of the second half. Bayelsa Queens returned from the break with renewed intensity and wasted no time asserting control. Just two minutes after the restart, Chiamaka Ezekwugo rose highest to head home from a well-delivered free kick, breaking the deadlock in the 47th minute.

Before Ibom Angels could recover, Kindness Ifeanyi doubled the lead in the 49th minute, capitalizing on the hosts’ momentum and effectively putting the visitors on the back foot.

With a two-goal cushion, Bayelsa Queens dictated the tempo, showcasing composure and attacking fluidity. Their dominance was eventually capped by substitute Harmony Chidi, who produced a stunning long-range strike with 13 minutes remaining to seal the result.

Despite the comfortable margin, the Prosperity Ladies will reflect on missed opportunities that could have extended the scoreline further, particularly during their dominant second-half spell.

Speaking after the match, head coach George Ederikumo expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, highlighting their unity and intensity.

"That was the result we worked for and we’re proud of the effort. We win as a team and today, we played together,” he said.

"I’m proud of the intensity the players showed for 90 minutes; it was a great and massive job."

The result reinforces Bayelsa Queens’ strong push as the league approaches its deciding phase, with their clinical second-half display serving as a clear statement of intent.

This victory cements the Prosperity Ladies' position as a formidable force in the league standings as they continue their pursuit of the title. With the momentum from this three-goal triumph, the team looks ahead to their next fixtures with heightened confidence and tactical discipline.
