2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 14: Late Drama in Lafia as Nasarawa Amazons Edge Remo Stars Ladies

Posted : 09 April 2026

Nasarawa Amazons left it late but ultimately claimed a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Remo Stars Ladies in their NWFL Matchday 14 encounter, with a dramatic late penalty proving the difference in Lafia.

In a contest defined by intensity and resilience, both sides struggled to find a breakthrough for much of the game despite flashes of attacking promise.

The Amazons, backed by their home supporters, dictated early proceedings with a high-tempo approach, pressing aggressively and committing numbers forward.

Adesoji Esther, Abdulwahaab Faridat, and Igbokwe Joy were instrumental in driving the hosts’ attacking moves, combining well and testing the defensive discipline of Remo Stars Ladies.

However, clear-cut chances remained scarce as the visitors stood firm, ensuring the first half ended in a stalemate.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Nasarawa Amazons maintaining territorial advantage but lacking the clinical edge in the final third.

The introduction of fresh legs, including Moses Farikikyen and Okah Adaobi, added urgency and creativity to their forward play as they searched for a decisive moment.

That moment finally arrived in the closing stages. A handball inside the penalty area handed the hosts a golden opportunity in the 87th minute.

Alani Jumoke stepped up under pressure and delivered with composure, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to ignite celebrations among the home faithful.

The late strike not only secured all three points but also completed a season double for the Amazons over Remo Stars Ladies, underlining their growing dominance in Group B.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Christopher Danjuma acknowledged his side’s persistence while highlighting the need for sharper finishing.

“We created chances but must improve in converting from open play,” he said.

“The team showed great determination despite missing key attackers, and we are hopeful of better performances in our next game.”

He also extended respect to the opposition bench, commending Coach Wemimo for her efforts and professionalism.

With this result, Nasarawa Amazons climb to second place in Group B and will now shift focus to their Matchday 15 trip to Osun State, where they face Osun Babes in another crucial fixture.

This hard-earned victory reinforces the Amazons' status as title contenders as the season reaches its business end. By maintaining their composure under pressure, they have secured a vital position in the standings heading into the next round of matches.
