2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 13: Confluence Queens beat Delta Queens to earn season's first win

Posted : 02 April 2026

Confluence Queens FC ended their long wait for a first victory of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season with a hard-earned 2-1 triumph over Delta Queens FC in their Match Day 13 encounter at the Edo State University Stadium, Iyamho.

Coming into the fixture on the back of a morale-boosting away draw against Remo Stars Ladies, the Lokoja-based side showed renewed belief and determination, translating their growing confidence into a deserved maximum points haul.

Despite controlling much of the first half, Confluence Queens were unable to find a breakthrough, with Delta Queens holding firm to keep the contest goalless at the interval.

The game, however, sprang to life after the restart. Just 10 minutes into the second half, Ijeoma Ibe opened the scoring with a calm and clinical finish after being expertly set up by Ezeani Vincential, giving the hosts a deserved lead.

Coach Nsikakabasi Okon Armstrong’s tactical adjustments continued to pay off as substitute Ebube Marvelous made an instant impact. In the 78th minute, she produced a moment of brilliance, executing a stunning overhead kick to double the advantage and put the game beyond immediate reach.

Marvelous’ strike marked her second consecutive goal, underlining her growing influence in the squad following her crucial equaliser in the previous outing.

Delta Queens responded late on, with substitute Temitope Awede pulling one back to set up a tense finish. However, Confluence Queens held their nerve to see out the remaining minutes and secure a landmark win.

The victory not only lifts the spirits of the Lokoja side but also signals a potential turning point in their campaign as they prepare for a challenging away fixture against Osun Babes FC in Ilé-Ogbó on April 8, 2026.

This long-awaited triumph provides a significant boost to the team's morale as they aim to climb the league standings. With key players finding their form at a crucial stage, the Lokoja-based side will look to build on this performance in the coming weeks. The focus now shifts to maintaining this consistency to ensure their survival and growth in the top flight.
