The disciplinary hammer of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Referees Committee has once again fallen on two referees.
According to a release signed by Mohammad Ameenu, Secretary of the NFF Referees Committee, the suspensions aim to curb misconduct by referees and protect the integrity of the game.
Indefinite Suspension from League and Other Matches
NPFL MD 19: Ikorodu City FC vs Remo Stars FC – Emmanuel Ocheme (FCT)
Observation: During the fixture, a defensive player deliberately handled the ball inside the penalty area following an attack down the right flank. Referee Emmanuel Ocheme ignored the handball and refused to award a penalty kick.
Committee Assessment: The referee’s decision was deemed inconsistent with the Laws of the Game, affecting the match outcome.
Decision: Indefinite suspension from the NPFL and all other football matches.
NPFL MD 19: Rivers United FC vs Rangers International FC – Moukhtar Bashir (KN)
Observation: A throw-in led to a miscalculated aerial ball by the goalkeeper, resulting in a goal. Referee Moukhtar Bashir unjustifiably disallowed the goal. Video evidence revealed no reason to justify the decision.
Committee Assessment: The referee’s action violated the Laws of the Game, impacting the match result.
Decision: Indefinite suspension from the NPFL and all other football matches.
The NFF Referees Committee reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining fairness, accountability, and professionalism in Nigerian football.
