2025/2026 NPFL Season: Barau FC's Form Excites Agagbe

Posted : 11 March 2026

Eugene Agagbe, the Technical Adviser of Barau Football Club of Kano, has rated his side as one of the best teams in Nigeria at the moment.

The head coach of the team, Eugene Agagbe, stated this while describing the support he has enjoyed from the club's management as wonderful.

He noted that, “the management was doing very well considering the travel history of the team to honour away matches by flight.”

The ex-international said his dream for Barau FC was to be comfortable among the first five teams at the end of the 2025/26 NPFL season.

Agagbe said: “When I took up appointment with Barau FC at the beginning of the second stanza of the league, it was 19th position on the log, and because my first objective was to pull the team out of the red zone, I said openly that with seven matches I would take the team out of the red zone.

“I played seven unbeaten matches and climbed up to the 10th position, and it was when we lost 0-1 in Port Harcourt to Rivers United and last weekend, 0-1 against Pillars in Kano, that we dropped to the 12th position.

“I still thank God because it is with His faithfulness that we have gone this far. That is to say, when God wants to do anything for you, He does it in His own way.”

He gave credit to the players for their cooperation, for working hard, and remaining focused, explaining that since he took over the club with the players he had inherited, he had injected only three new players into the team, and no club had been able to score up to two goals against them in a match.

“I always dedicate my victory to the Almighty God because I can’t stand anywhere and say this is what I have done knowing that it is God who has been wonderful to Barau FC.”

The former Bendel Insurance FC of Benin mesmerising attacker, who described the General Manager of Barau FC of Kano, Dominic Iorfa, as a godfather and mentor whom he holds in very high esteem and as one who had made him what he was today, also thanked the fans for being very supportive of the team.

“The fans are very good, and whenever we are playing our matches, they are always out to give us their full support. Kano is one of the best places where fans come out to watch football, and when we are playing, we see large crowds.”

While commending the organisers of the NPFL led by its Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, and the Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, under whose watch the NPFL had been given a facelift, he said they have also made it the best.

“I rate them the best because there is no way that in a week, ten league matches will be played in Nigeria, and a team will not record an away victory. That shows that there is a great improvement.”

“I want to also commend the referees for their wonderful officiating. They have improved so much that when you have a good team, you can secure an away victory.

“They are doing a perfect job now, not like yesterday, when a team would win a match when it did not deserve it. I pray for them to continue with the good job that they are doing.”
