Coach Kabiru Dogo’s El-Kanemi Warriors FC played to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against one of Maiduguri’s top football academies, Abteema Academy, in a thrilling pre-season fixture at the El-Kanemi Warriors FC Stadium, backed by an enthusiastic home crowd.
Abteema Academy’s Kachalla stood out with a brilliant first-half performance, converting a superb free-kick that beat El-Kanemi goalkeeper Achem Francis to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, El-Kanemi Warriors made crucial tactical changes that began to turn the tide. A costly error by Abteema’s goalkeeper allowed one of El-Kanemi’s strikers to capitalize and level the score at 1-1.
Despite sustained pressure from the Warriors, Abteema’s resilient defense held strong, and the match ended in a stalemate.
Later in the evening, El-Kanemi returned to the pitch for a second match—this time against Qatar Academy, a side sponsored by Alhaji Waziri, under the officiating of referee Usman Baffa.
The Warriors started aggressively and made an early statement. In the 13th minute, Bilal Yakubu delivered a precise cross to Rislanu Ismail, who powered home a header to open the scoring. Just minutes later, Al’amin doubled the lead, making it 2-0 before halftime.
El-Kanemi continued their dominance in the second half, with Al’amin completing a stunning hat-trick by scoring again in the 57th and 60th minutes, bringing the final score to 4-0.
Following their strong performances in both matches, El-Kanemi Warriors FC will now enjoy a well-deserved weekend break before resuming preparations for the upcoming Ahlan Cup and the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
