2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 18: Enyimba Coach Ukaegbu Eyes Victory Over El-Kanemi Warriors

Posted : 20 December 2025

Enyimba International FC interim coach, Lawrence Ukaegbu, has expressed confidence that the Aba giants can achieve a positive result away from home when they face El-Kanemi Warriors FC in their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 18 clash on Sunday.

Describing Maiduguri as an “unusual terrain,” Ukaegbu emphasized that the Peoples Elephant are well-prepared and tactically ready to overcome the Desert Warriors in what promises to be a crucial fixture for both sides.

The nine-time NPFL champions will once again be without their substantive Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, who was relieved of his duties about a month ago following a series of poor results, including a narrow 0–1 defeat to Lobi Stars in Matchday 13.

Since taking charge in an interim capacity, Ukaegbu has stabilized the Aba-based side, guiding Enyimba to two wins and two draws in his first four matches. The team has also picked up two victories from their last three league outings, boosting confidence within the camp.

Ahead of the clash, Ukaegbu hinted at a tactical change against El-Kanemi, noting that Enyimba would not line up in the same formation used in previous games. “We are going to El-Kanemi, we know how they play. We are not going to use the same formation; we’ll change our formation, which I will not reveal,” he told Enyimba Media.

Enyimba currently occupy eighth place on the NPFL table with 23 points from 17 matches and will be targeting maximum points to close the gap on the top half of the standings. El-Kanemi Warriors, meanwhile, are struggling in 18th place with 19 points, recording five wins, four draws, and eight losses this season, and will be desperate to improve their home record.

With both teams needing points for different reasons, Sunday’s encounter promises to be fiercely contested as Enyimba aim to maintain their resurgence under Ukaegbu, while El-Kanemi battle to escape the relegation zone.
