2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 17: Niger Tornadoes Rout El-Kanemi Warriors in Minna

Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna delivered an impressive performance on Matchday 17 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), comfortably defeating northern rivals El-Kanemi Warriors 3–0 at the Bako Kontagora Stadium.

The Ikon Allah Boys dominated from the outset, earning an early breakthrough when 22-year-old Akintunde Azeez converted a penalty in the 5th minute. The spot kick followed sustained pressure from the Tornadoes, who kept the Desert Warriors pinned in their half during a dominant first-half display.

Despite creating several other opportunities, Niger Tornadoes went into halftime with a narrow 1–0 lead, leaving room for further improvement in the second half.

After the restart, the home side returned with renewed intensity. Midfielder Rickson Mendos extended the lead in the 79th minute, finishing calmly after a precise assist from Liman Ahmadu. Mendos struck again five minutes later, netting in the 84th minute to seal a comprehensive 3–0 victory and cap off an impressive individual performance.

Head coach Mohammed Majin praised his players for their discipline, focus, and dominance throughout the match, noting that their teamwork and tactical awareness were key to the result.

The win strengthens Niger Tornadoes’ position in the NPFL table, moving them to fifth place with 26 points from 17 matches, recording eight wins, two draws, and seven losses this season.
