2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 17: Ibrahim’s Early Strike Secures Crucial Away Win for Shooting Stars in Kano

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan continued their strong form in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a hard-fought 1–0 away win over league newcomers Barau FC in their Matchday 17 clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.

The Oluyole Warriors demonstrated their reputation as one of the league’s most resilient travelling sides, recording their second consecutive away victory in Kano this season. Having previously stunned Kano Pillars at the same venue, Shooting Stars returned to familiar territory to claim maximum points against another Kano-based team.

The decisive moment came early in the match when Sodiq Ibrahim struck in the ninth minute to give the visitors a crucial lead. The forward’s composed finish proved sufficient to separate the sides in a tightly contested encounter.

Despite Barau FC’s sustained efforts to get back into the game, Shooting Stars maintained a disciplined and compact defensive structure, effectively managing the match to secure a valuable three points on the road.

The defeat further deepens the struggles of Barau FC, whose introduction to the NPFL has been challenging. The loss leaves the Maliya Boys in 19th place, in the relegation zone, with 17 points from 17 matches, recording four wins, five draws, and eight defeats—highlighting their ongoing difficulties at this level.

For Shooting Stars, the victory strengthens their league position and momentum, moving them up to seventh place on the table with 26 points from 17 matches, comprising seven wins, five draws, and five losses. Meanwhile, Barau FC face mounting pressure as they fight to survive in the second half of the season.
